Numerical model of an electropaint process with applications to the automotive industry
Department of Applied Mathematics and Operational Research, Cranfield University RMCS Shrivenham, Swindon SN6 8LA
A steady-state model is developed for the process known as electropainting. The model consists of Laplace's equation with boundary conditions in the form of inequalities and complementarity relations. Numerical methods based on the boundary-element method are applied to solve the equations on realistic industrial geometries, when we consider a test piece used in the assessment of the capability of particular paints, and in three dimensions when we consider the problem of coating car roofs. Comparisons are made between the numerical solutions and available experimental data.
